Presidential Primary Election -March 5, 2024

The City of South Pasadena does not have any local measures or office seats up for election on the March 5, 2024, ballot. However, the city does host ballot drop box and vote center locations. These locations are noted via the vote center and ballot drop box locator tools, which are linked in the pictures above.

General Municipal Election -November 5, 2024


City Council Maps

The City of South Pasadena is a general law city with a five-member legislative body. Each of the five City Councilmembers are directly elected by the registered voters of their district. The positions of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem are ceremonial in nature and not directly elected. The City Council selects the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem amongst themselves and the positions typically serve a calendar year. The next general municipal election for the City of South Pasadena will be held on November 5, 2024 for three Council seats – Districts 1, 2 and 3. Click here to add your address to determine which district you live in.

The nomination period for the November 5, 2024, General Municipal Election will be open in the Summer of 2024. Nomination papers may only be issued during the nomination period. The nomination period is July 15, 2024 to August 9, 2024. If an incumbent does not run, the nomination period will be extended to August 14, 2024. Candidates must be registered voters of their respective districts and nominated by registered voters of their respective districts.

Every 10 years, local governments use new data from the Census to redraw their district lines to reflect how local populations have changed.

 On October 4, 2017, the South Pasadena City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2318 to change from at-large to by-district elections with respect to electing members of the City Council, establishing boundaries, and sequencing of elections within the districts. Voters will experience the new by-district electoral system beginning with the General Municipal Election in November 2018. For more information, visit www.southpasadenaca.gov/districts.

On October 5, 2016, the South Pasadena City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2301 to change the City's General Municipal Elections from November in odd-numbered years to November in even-numbered years, to coincide with statewide general elections. The City of South Pasadena is currently redistricting.

Campaign Contribution Regulations

On October 4, 2017, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2317 establishing City Campaign Contribution Regulations. The purpose of these regulations is to promote integrity, honesty, and transparency in municipal election campaigns and to prevent corruption, or the appearance of corruption, from the real or imagined influence of large contributions.

Specifically, no candidate shall solicit or accept any contribution from any person that would exceed the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000) with respect to any single election. For more information contact the City Clerk's Division at (626) 403-7230.
