CALIFORNIA FRIENDLY AND NATIVE PLANTS LANDSCAPE - November 13th, 2024

DATE: Wednesday November 13th, 2024

Learn to design and maintain landscapes that support healthier watersheds and sustainability. Residents will have the opportunity to explore techniques such as selecting native plants, retaining rainwater, and reducing impervious surfaces to create beautiful, eco-friendly outdoor spaces.

 

 

LAWN CARE AND MAINTENANCE - December 7th, 2024

DATE: Saturday December 7th, 2024
TIME: 11:00AM - 12:00PM
LOCATION: Senior Center - 1102 Oxley Street, South Pasadena, CA 91030

This workshop is designed for residents who wish to maintain their lawns but seeking more water efficient and organically practices doing so. Residents are encouraged to explore how to build healthy soil for lawns, use irrigation properly and improve plant resilience to drought.

 

BEAUTIFUL GARDENS ON MINIMAL WATER - January 14th, 2025

DATE: Tuesday January 14th, 2025
TIME: 6:00PM - 7:00PM

There is no need to sacrifice beauty in the pursuit of water and energy conservation. With this course participants will learn how to maintain a gorgeous, drought-resilient yard using sustainable and water efficient landscape practices.

 

TURF REMOVAL, REPLACE OR MAINTAIN IT - February 8th, 2025

DATE: Saturday February 8th, 2025
TIME: 11:00AM - 12:00PM
LOCATION: Senior Center - 1102 Oxley Street, South Pasadena, CA 91030

Turf management can use up considerable water and resources. This course provides residents with the tools to start transforming their landscapes by reducing or eliminating grass.

 

OUTDOOR LEAK DETECTION

DATE: Tuesday March 25th, 2025
TIME: 6:00PM - 7:00PM 
LOCATION: Library - 1100 Oxley Street, South Pasadena, CA 91030

According to the U.S. EPA, household leaks waste nearly 900 billion gallons of water each year—equivalent to the annual water use of about 11 million homes. Much of this waste can be prevented with simple fixes.

 

LANDSCAPE TRANSFORMATIONS ON A BUDGET - May 17th, 2025

DATE: Saturday May 17th, 2025
TIME: 10:00AM to 12:00PM

For many individuals, removing turf and replacing it with a Watershed Wise landscape is overwhelming and cost prohibitive. This workshop helps residents understand the expenses, how to prioritize the choices, and determine how to minimize costs.

What is the Landscape Academy?

The Landscape Academy serves as a dedicated learning center for South Pasadena residents, offering in-person, hands-on courses that cover various aspects of water-efficient and drought-tolerant landscaping specific to South Pasadena. The academy aims to equip residents with the skills necessary to design water-conscious and sustainable landscapes, fostering a deeper connection to nature and your neighbors, as well as promoting a vibrant, sustainable community.

How much do these workshops/trainings cost? 

Every workshop/training provided by the Landscape Academy is FREE! 

Who can participate?

ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME!

Currently we are opening all classes to South Pasadena residents ONLY. The Academy is launching its first year by offering a comprehensive curriculum designed to address the specific needs of South Pasadena residents. By investing in this education, residents can ensure their efforts are effective and rewarding.

Where are these workshops/trainings being held? 

All workshops/trainings will be held at various locations throughout the City (i.e. Senior Center, Library, City Chambers). 

How do I know which workshop/training to take?  

Why not take them all? It's recommended that residents try to attend as many classes as possible to get full exposure to all the water wise landscaping techniques that are being offered. See above for a description of each workshop/training being offered for your preview.

However if you are struggling to find the "right" class for you - feel free to reach out and bounce your ideas off our water conservation team!
