Fine Free

The South Pasadena Public Library is committed to providing equal access to materials and services. Studies have shown that library overdue fees have a disproportionate negative impact on youth and the most vulnerable community members. On December 16, 2020, the City Council unanimously adopted a resolution to eliminate library overdue material fees to ensure equitable access to library services, effective January 1, 2021. South Pasadena is proud to be a "fine free" library.

Borrowers remain responsible for material checked out on their account, and will be billed for items that are not returned by their due date. The timeline below explains each step in the new "fine free" overdue and lost items process.

How does Auto-Renewal work?

Items are loaned for three weeks, and will be automatically renewed up to two times as long as another customer has not placed a hold on the item. To receive email notices about which items were successfully auto-renewed and which were ineligible, make sure you have a working email address saved in your account. Add or update your email address by logging in to the catalog and editing your contact information under My Account. If you need help, call us during open hours at (626) 403-7330.
