710 Freeway
The 710 Freeway has been a major political topic of discussion in South Pasadena for several decades. The Local History Collection at the South Pasadena Public Library Local History Collection offers a wide variety of research materials related to the 710 Freeway. California Listens Project
In 2018 the South Pasadena Public Library was selected to participate in California Listens, a California State Library-funded digital storytelling workshop. The project collected local stories related to the "No on 710" Freeway Fight. Participants created short videos using personal images, videos, and archival materials.

On June 7, 2019, a special event was held in the South Pasadena Public Library Community Room to honor the “No on 710” Freeway Fighters. Featured speakers included Mayor Marina Khubesrian, MD, Councilmember Richard D. Schneider, MD, and authors Chip Jacobs and Frank Girardot. The event also featured the screening of the ten California Listens digital stories introduced by the authors. Singer/songwriter Brad Colerick provided a musical performance and South Pasadena Poet Laureate Ron Koertge read his poem “Ode to South Pasadena”. A recording of this event is available here.
